Files and directories
An online medium is always at least one directory with a file in it. The individual online media can be uploaded directly or via an FTP client (e.g. FileZilla). The directory name of an online medium always begins with its Medienummer. The signature can be followed by the title of the medium in the directory name. As a general rule, file and directory names on our server must not contain contain spaces, special characters, umlauts, etc. Only the characters A-Z, a-z, 0-9, minus sign - and underscore_. File names are case sensitive.
The main directory for an online medium tends to look like this:
5551234-HelloWorld
This contains an entry point, which is the start file that is displayed in the browser when you click on it from the Mediathek.
This entry point can be:
- HTML page index.htm which, for example, calls up video chapters and refers to a menu of further HTML pages; or
- a single video file. 5551234-HelloWorld.mp4
In the second case, the online video only consists of one file.
The first case is common for didactic videos as they usually consist of several episodes, plus additional material. Such an
online medium therefore consists of files which are gathered into an executable whole. This creates a kind of micro-website for each individual medium. A typical directory structure looks like this:
5551234-Hello_world
index.htm
5551234-Hello_world.zip
